Research is the most important process to creating a brand. This is where data is collected, processed and learnt about different type of users and customers, likes and dislikes but most importantly, user pain points with usage of similar products or technology. Here are some different research methods that are used to create a brand, and some research methods

Contextual Research

Contextual research is usually started at the beginning of the research tasks. Contextual Research allows the researchers to increase their knowledge on chosen subjects or areas that need improvement or a selected industry. This usually includes case studies on inspirations and branding of different companies.

This is an important step to focus on as it can give a clear view of who what where and why some brands have acted or created certain strategies, it gives the basic or developed background information about the industry

Case Studies

Case studies is a singular or multiple intense detailed studies about a person, place or specific groups/communities which it’s target is to find out as much information about their strategies, values and choices to understand how they got to the place they are currently at.

While doing case studies we must think on how the information could be useful to our own branding or if it can be used as an inspiration. We must understand what the topic is about and why did specific brands create their logos / digital designs in a specific way.

User research

User research allows us to understand on how users interact with other or similar products, what features do they like to use, what are they attracted to and thier pain points.

Usually researchers will create ‘’User Personas’’, which are a small fact file about a near perfect user who would use a certain app or brand, user personas can also be created on real people, asking them questions and asking them to fill out details which then can be used to analyze and perfect the application for users pain points.

Self - Reflection

While writing and performing research it is crucial to complete self reflection, as this can help others and even yourself see the progress made or key reflections on your topic or project such as:

It can get you prepared for another project, as you are performing basically self-analysis; What has worked for you? What has not? Anything you would do different? This can strengthen your view on yourself and your strengths and weaknesses in researching but also list important ideas.
